Casino Players The Jackpot Rules

When a casino or cardroom includes a bad beat jackpot with its poker games, each individual establishment decides the type of poker hand that serves as the threshold of the bad beat. For example, a common threshold is a full house consisting of three Aces and any other pair of cards. This hand is referred to as Aces-full. With an Aces full threshold, a bad beat that qualifies for the jackpot happens when a player with Aces-full loses to a higher hand, like Four-of-kind. Any losing hands higher than Aces-full also qualify because they exceed the minimum threshold.

Under these circumstances, a bad beat that would not qualify for the jackpot is a full house made up of three Kings and another pair because the good hand that lost did not meet the jackpot criteria. It is important to remember that this threshold varies from casino to casino. The house hosting the poker game can set its threshold at whatever it wants.

The next crucial rule that must be met by the casino player to win the jackpot is that the two players involved in the bad beat must use both of their hole cards to make their poker hands. In a game like Texas Hold'em casino players receive two hole cards face-down at the beginning of the hand. These are the cards that must be part of the final poker hands. If a casino player makes his or her hand from just the face-up cards on the board or only uses one hole card, then the hand does not meet the jackpot criteria. So, be sure to get clarification on this rule where you play because use of hole cards is a widespread rule.
